This characterful and complex cabernet sauvignon has a beautiful balance of ripe but restrained fruit, herbal/savoury/earthy notes, and integrated oak. The nose shows cassis, blackberry, and black cherry fruit, herbal notes of spearmint, eucalyptus, roasted red pepper, and black olive, and hints of smoke, clove, earth, and cocoa. On the palate there is a little bit more cocoa and vanilla oak, and a touch of anise, but the fruit and savoury/herbal notes are still dominant. The wine is quite full-bodied, with medium-high acidity, medium-high, slightly grippy tannins, and well-integrated alcohol. Dense, long, and savoury. Pair with steak, game meats, or mature hard cheeses. Tasted Nov. 2016.
