In Southern Burgundy, at the foot of the Windmill, Vintage King of Beaujolais, the Ch. des Gimarets has been planting the vineyard on granitic soil with a nature conscience wine culture since 1650. Aromatic black & red berries, floral note. Very expressive with a round palate, well integrated tannins, & persistent finish. Match with white & red meat, pasta & cheeses.
“Elegant and fresh, with tangy acidity supporting the aromatic profile of spiced plum, black cherry tea and floral notes. Fig, licorice and bitter herb flavours mark the crisp, lingering finish. Drink now.” (Wine Spectator,2016)
This is a very nice Beaujolais Cru at a very attractive price. Moulin A Vent, along with Morgon is supposed to grow the more structured wines relative to the other 8 Cru's and while there's decent structure here, I wouldn't call this a big wine. An expressive nose in the red berry and floral spectrum, it's medium bodied, with medium plus acidity and very good length. Early to mid palate is quite fruity but it finishes quite savoury, almost bitter. April 2017.
