This is an unusual blend of carmenere, grenache, and merlot. It is dominated by ripe red fruit characteristics on both the nose and palate, along with warm baking spices, cocoa, roasted red pepper, and slight developing hints of forest floor and tobacco. A touch of menthol adds to these on the smooth, medium-bodied palate. The acidity is fresh and the moderate tannins are quite soft. The finish is moderate length, and reminiscent of chocolate covered strawberries and baking spices. What this wine may lack in complexity it makes up for in balance, drinkability, and value for money. Best now or within the next year or so, before it loses its lovely primary fruit. Would make a great pairing with barbecued pork chops. Tasted Sept. 2016.
