Nose: Bright, ripe red fruit, strawberry, earthy summer smells; a bit pomegranate, a bit beet, a bit mint and thyme, spices, and volcanic minerality. Palate: So good. So bright and so fresh. It just fills your mouth with this luscious, bright fruit. It’s such a joy to drink. It’s like biting into a perfect summer strawberry or cherry: sweet without being sweet, tart without being obnoxious. The pomegranate shows up again, along with the earthy, herbal crunchy minerality. It’s got some lively acidity, which takes the form of blood orange. Full review: www.nikinosewine.com/home/planeta-frappato-vittoria-2015-review
Elegant and fresh. Planeta is an excellent producer in Sicily and this Frappato is really well done, displaying the typicity and character of this traditional Sicilian grape. The Vittorio DOC is centred around the town of Vittorio in the Ragusa province of southeast Sicilia. Medium plus aromatics of violets, red fruit, spice, salinity and iron. Similarly on the palate, there's cherry, pomegranate, red berry, spice, smoke and minerality. Medium bodied, bright acidity, some alcohol heat and excellent length. Enjoy now while fresh, fruity and vibrant. Nov. 2017.
Translucent pale red. Fragrant red fruits with hints of pepper. On the palate, flavours of cranberry and beetroot, with a notes of smoke. Quite light-bodied and low tannin, this reminds me most of pinot noir (perhaps a little Loire Valley Cab Franc thrown in as well). An interesting and enjoyable find, well worth trying, especially if you enjoy lighter reds. Tasted Sept 2017.
