One of the most dramatic improvements in Bordeaux is what proprietor Tony Perrin has accomplished with Carbonnieux’s red wine program. The whites have always been among the leaders of the appellation, but he has built more fruit, body, and texture into the reds over recent vintages. Another unequivocal success, the 2006 offers creme de cassis, kirsch, and subtle smoke characteristics in a medium-bodied, pure, elegant style. With lovely texture, sweet tannin, and a savory, long finish, it should offer delicious drinking after 3-4 years of bottle age, and will keep for 15+ years. Score – (90-92). (RP)
