The 2011 is a big McLaren Vale shiraz. It is an opaque inky black wine with a lifted nose and juicy fruity palate....

The 2011 Wolf Blass Grey Label Shiraz, sourced from McLaren Vale and aged in a combination of French and American Oaks, has seductive aromas of succulent black currant, cigar box, oak and vanillin on the nose and blackberry, black currant and vanilla on the palate. It is medium to full bodied, extra-dry, integrated wine; with good acidity, refined tannins and a long and smooth finish. This is a sipping wine – enjoy by itself; drink now to 2020-25 will get better in the next 5 or so years (screw cap enclosure). My impression: BEAUTIFUL, 92 pts – not recommended value-wise, but recommended for its quality (for this price, it better be good). Tasted in Feb/15 at 'Shiraz Week at iYellow Wine Cave' http://grapeselections.com/grapeselections/wine-reviews/.

Consistently a good solid, complex Shiraz, powerful but not jammy

Description: Deep ruby in colour with a medium to medium+ intense nose. This wine features cedar, blackberry, blueberry, plums, black currants, peppercorns, eucalyptus, vanilla, Allspice, cola, espresso, tobacco leaves and cigar box. Full body with medium tannins, good acidity and a long length.

Negatives: Some heat from the 14.5% alcohol

Drink now or in the next 10 years on its own or pair it with spicy barbecued leg of lamb with rosemary and mint sauce.

Tasted: 20 June 2015

Score: 9/10, Value: 8.5+/10 (Sale price 9/10), Total: 17.5+/20

Out of 5 stars, I rated this wine: 4
