Deep ruby, almost opaque; little rim. Fruity, smoky nose exhibits blackcurrant and a bit of black pepper. Palate of dark fruit with residual smoke. Acidity and a touch of bitterness reminiscent of eggplant and bell pepper. Medium finish with little evolution. Charmingly rustic. Serve with peppered meat, pasta with tomato sauce, or nothing at all. Simple and plain but enjoyable. Excellent for a very cheap wine. Tasted June 2014.
