The 2012 Château Des Charmes Gamay Noir has attractive notes of red currant and black cherry on the nose and cranberry, sour cherry and just notable vanilla. It is a light to medium bodied, extra-dry, fruity wine; with crisp acidity, subtle tannins and a medium finish. Though intended to be served with food, the wine rewards on its own; drink now and for the next 1-2 years (cork enclosure). My impression: quite NICE, 88-89 pts – recommended for its quality and value. Tasted in May/14.
