Vineland's Elevation is an excellent riesling to be sure, but when on sale, what a bargain. The nose offers apple and pear as the dominant fruits and a nice whiff of petrol/machine oil. The palate provides minerality and a lovely seam of acidity that ends in a citrusy finish. Smartly made, juicy, well balanced, and excellent length. April 2015.
A little closed on the nose. Some nice spices and fruit on the palate and very fresh. Long finish.
Fragrant nose of petro//l, candied lemon, and citrus, along with touches of honey, apple, and peach. It has clean, bracing acids with good fruit concentration and a slightly fleshy mouthfeel. It's off-dry on the palate with apple, citrus, waxy and petrol flavours. Some tartness on the mid-palate while the long finish brings some limestone mineral notes. Tasted Dec/2019.
This is quite good, perhaps very good for what it is, but it's drastically overrated. I prefer Riesling that's dry and austere. And this is not that. Off-dry, it has loads of fruit appeal, so much so that it comes across as a fruit salad of a wine, with pronounced notes of apple, pear, stone fruit, and tart lemon. And it has rich, thick, mead-like qualities, including oodles of sweet honey, along with a solid mineral streak and a long finish. But despite all that, or because of it, it lacks refinement and elegance. Maybe it all comes together as it ages, but right now it's a package of excess.
