This Chianti is light ruby with garnet edges. It offers an expressive floral nose with cherry and red berry fruit, nib licorice, vanilla, sweet baking spice and although still young, a whiff of leather. Medium bodied; the palate delivers sour cherry, vanilla, pepper and a slight medicinal note. The higher acidity, grippy tannins and slight alcohol heat provide solid structure. Length is very good. Not bad for an $18 bottle that rocked with greasy pizza (as pizza should be!). April 2014.
