A very good example of Niagara Pinot. This scarlett wine sourced from vineyards around the Village of Jordan exhibits tart fruit notes of sour cherry and cranberry, minerality with hints of anise, nutmeg and a savoury element. Medium bodied, it's structure is derived from a nice seam of acidity and a still slightly tannic presence. It is balanced, on the tart side (reflecting the vintage) and has excellent length. Pairs beautifully with cedar planked salmon brushed with a lemony vinaigrette. Aug. 2014.

Soft and elegant. Smoky cherries with hints of vanilla. Medium body makes this very classy stuff.

The 2011 Jackson Triggs Le Clos Jordanne Village Reserve Pinot Noir was fermented using natural yeast; this is a first vintage from winemaker Sebastian Jacquey. The wine has lifted aromas of green underbrush, rosehip, pomegranate, old wood, faint clove and light spiciness. It is a light to medium bodied; extra-dry, fruity wine; with forward acidity, tight tannins and a medium finish. This wine is both food friendly and a sipper; it will benefit from further aging for the tannins and acidity to come together – drink 2017 – 2022. My impression: NICE, 89 pts. This one is certainly aging gracefully, with no signs of fading. It has an enticing savory nose with intriguing herbal notes, and remarkably deep color for this cool vintage. The price to be paid for this level of extraction shows up on the palate, with mouth-drying tannins and a bitter edge in the finish. A good Pinot for the vintage, but likely could have been even better if made in a more delicate style. May 2017 update: last bottle. Still in decent shape, but starting the downhill slide, with fruit fading into beetroot and leathery notes, furry tannins. Farewell, LCJ!

A bit difficult to judge at this point as I found that the tannin to still be a bit firm. Quite close on the nose, this took some time to open up (and never really did, aromatically). On the palate, fairly complex flavours of red cherries, tart cranberries with a hint of some from the barrel ageing. A bitter note also crept in. A bit of over-extraction? A well-made cool-climate pinot, but I'd suggest another 12-18months in bottle. Taste May 2015.

Medium+ intensity aromatics with earthy, beetroot, bretty nose. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with oak spice, cherry and strawberry flavours. Has very good acids and long, dry, savoury finish. Food-friendly wine. Tasted Oct/2014.
