Delightful french oak influence on the nose, with prevalent notes of vanilla, smoke and cinnamon. There is a strong fruit presence on the palate (both black and red), which is supported by smooth, fleshy tannins. In this regard, I disagree with David Lawrason -- there is a great structure. Fantastic value.
It is all too easy to dismiss Bordeaux as being vastly overpriced these days. When it comes to classified growths, this is mostly true, but Bordeaux is a huge wine region with hundreds of chateaus. There are some gems amongst those names, and this is certainly one. Lovely mix of red and black fruit, well judged oak, herbs, and very fine tannin. Very well made and very Bordeaux. Would benefit from another year or two, but fine now as well. Great value. Tasted Feb 2014.
Excellent simple Bordeaux. When you need a sure value, do not hesitate to pick this one. Deep red, great nose, 14.5% alcohol. Don't and drive...
