Not sure I have ever run across this blend of two of the wine world’s toughest red grapes. It is dark, dense black...

The 2009 Glen Carlou Petit Verdot/Tannat, comprised of 85% to 15% proportions and aged in used oak barrels for 18 months, has characteristic South African aromas composed of earth, lees, black cherry, oak and coffee been on the nose and red currant, sour cherry, black berry and ripe coffee beans on the palate. It is a full bodied, extra-dry, integrated wine; with crisp acidity, refined tannins (decant for 30 min) and a long finish. It is food friendly and a sipping wine; drink now to 2025 – best 2018/19 (cork enclosure). My impression: NICE to BEAUTIFUL, 90-91 pts – recommended for its quality and value. Tasted in Feb/15.

Dark ruby in colour with a medium+ intense nose.

Reminds me of Hubba Bubba grape gum

Positives: This wine features cedar, prunes, dark cherry, raspberry, hickory, iodine, cocoa, eucalyptus, pepper and licorice. Full body with medium+ tannins, good acidity & a long length.

Negatives: Lots of heat from the 14.5% alcohol

Interesting Note: If you have a cold, inhale this, as it will clear your nasal passages.

Drink now or in the next 7 years on its own or pair it with dry rubbed beef ribs.

Tasted: 21 March 2014

Score: 8.5+/10, Value: 8.5+/10, Total: 17.5/20

Out of 5 stars, I rated this wine: 3.5+
