Pepper, spice and smoke make up the nose on this lovely Rhone styled shiraz. Really, this has much more to do with...

Victoria Shiraz has an (Australian rules) 19th man element, a sense of umami that is unique to the region. I believe...

If there was ever a wine at this price that bridges the gap between New and Old World, this has to be it. Medium-bodied, it's loaded with black fruit, spice, and smoke that point to Australia along with the meaty, peppery notes that point to the Rhone. Medium tannins and refreshing acidity, this is a wine that is meant to be consumed at the table. This is in contrast to most Aussie shiraz which nowadays seems to be produced for post-meal sipping. Amazing price for a truly well put together wine. Tasted December 2014

Warm and open ripe blackberry and milk chocolate nose. Blackberry and black cherry compote flavours with soft tannins. Prominent black pepper on finish. Liked the black pepper to offset the ripe fruit.

Reminiscent of a Syrah from the Rhône, not a Shiraz from Australia; indeed, I bought another bottle to make a point at an upcoming wine-tasting event. Light cherry colour, similar to Pinot Noir—much lighter than a typical Australian Shiraz. Nose peppery, a bit musky, with red fruit, a hint of cayenne. Palate strongly redolent of black pepper (word to the wise!), with fresh mulberry, blackberry, sun-dried tomato, bacon, and a slightly acidic kick on the finish. Not particularly long. Medium body. Pair with a peppery stew or maybe chicken basquaise. Good value. Tasted December 2014.

Screw cap. Medium-high aromatics with terrific complexity offering white pepper, garrigue, blackberry, mint, with some earthy/barnyard funk. Dusty tannins are nicely integrated with just a touch of grip on the medium-bodied palate. Juicy blackberry, white pepper, black cherry, mint, earth and wood flavours in a dry style, Acids are fresh. Nice, long earthy finish. Old world in style and highly drinkable. Tasted Apr/2017.

A medium-bodied, leaner Shiraz which has much more in common with the syrahs of the North Rhone than most Shiraz I have ever tasted. Dark berry fruit, with notes of black olives, dried meat and black pepper. It does have a hard to place, odd taste (think bug spray, though I have never actually tasted that!) that is a bit distracting (again, like north Rhone syrah). Despite that, a fine wine. Tasted April 2014.

This one had a bit of an odd taste that just did not work for me.
