An absolutely stellar wine! Full of complexities and big big super drying tannins. Expect black cherry, sweet pipe tobacco, scorched earth, cigar char, barn yard, vanilla, cedar, ash, charcoal and mineral on the finish. Serious QPR here!
Wine Spectator gave this wine a 93. This is somewhat excessive in my view, but not far off. This Douro is somewhat closed on the nose. I'm looking for it to open up in the next two to three years. The palate, however, is stellar, showing impressive depth and complexity, particularly at this price point. There is a subtle salinity and stony minerality that nicely complements the plush (but not jammy) fruit core. Excellent length.
Deep dark colour, a powerful wine. Coming together nicely now (April 2016) but this should do well for several years easily. Pair with a grilled steak or lamb.
