Quite possibly one of the best white wines I've ever had...ever, seriously. This wine is ripe and lush, but also lean, crisp and focused. A beautiful creamy full body that matches quality ripe fruit. It's like a creamy chardonnay (minimal oak) meets an Alsace Pinot gris. This is wine I adore.
I've been really digging South African chenin lately and this is exactly why. The nose is incredibly complex with tons of bright lemon-lime notes to go along with almond, honey, white floral, and slightly herbaceous notes. On the palate, it's medium-full bodied with the same complex flavours shining through. It has the bright, refreshing acidity which keeps everything nice and clean and a finish that just goes on and on. Such a treat, especially at this price. Tasted January 2014.
Toasty oak nuttiness and some tropical fruit on the nose followed by the same nuttiness with pineapple on the palate with good acidity to keep things fresh and good intensity and mouth feel. Nice prolonged finish.
Intense with a mix of lime pear apricot nut. Good mouthfeel.
beautiful. lemon drop, nectar, and sweet herbs on the nose with a layered lemon-zesty palate adding orchard fruit, toffee and toasted nuts. great balance and a long flavourful finish. highly satisfying.
These South African Chenin Blanc's are quickly becoming some of my favourite white wines. This one is full bodied, rich, concentrated, perfumed. Complex with roasted nuts, citrus, creme fraiche, burnt marshmallow and a subtle hint of vanilla. Refreshing and balancing acidity, and the slightest pleasant bitterness on the finish.
A lot going on with this Chenin. Very complex with floral notes, minerality, an interplay between spice and a savoury element, vanilla and citrus. Lip smacking acidity provides a bracing structure and there's a nice lengthy finish. Excellent value. Tasted New Years's Eve, 2013. Resolution: get my hands on more of this stuff in 2014.
