Chapoutier's work with Syrah in Australia rivals his Rhone efforts. Red and dark fruit (cherry, raspberry, blueberry) is counterpointed by savoury elements like soy sauce and bacon fat. Minerality, pepper and judicious oak influences of chocolate add complexity. The wine is in a really good development phase, drinking beautifully. The acidity, alcohol, fruit, oak and tannin are well balanced and the length is excellent. Could go another 5 years but why wait any longer. Nov. 2017.
