Well made, well balanced, this delivers on the promise of very good champagne. The price might make it more suitable for a special occasion, but I think everyone should experience the happiness associated with a good sparkler more regularly and with the price of top Ontario bubbles 'see Henry of Pelham' one can do so on any given week night.
A bouquet of dehydrated apples caresses the nose and teases with hints of macerated vanilla bean. The palate is very full in the mouth with tart flavors of pear and toasty brioche. Finish is long and buttery.
One of my favorite vinos.
Tasted at the stroke of midnight 01-Jan-2011 to toast the new year.
A nice choice for those special occasions.
The Clicquot Yellow label is made with 2/3 black fruit (Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier) and 1/3 white (Chardonnay) in a dry (Brut) style which is fairly typical in terms of traditional Champagne 'brands' and I've enjoyed this one countless times. Rumor has it though, that to keep up with demand, the house of Clicquot is now releasing this product into the market considerably earlier than in the past, which might explain a more pronounced level of acidity. I suggest cellaring this 750ml bottle for a year or two before opening. Cheers! (Northof9finewine, March 2011)
Wonderful fine, persistant bubbles. Fresh style of Champagne with green apple, lemon-lime, grapefruit and minerality.
Tasted December 2019.
