This is an excellent Cahors with 90% Malbec and a a splash of Tannat to liven things up, and a splash of Merlot to round things out. Inky dark ruby in the glass. A perfumed nose and medium-full bodied with licorice, herbs, dark fruit, mocha, vanilla (lovely integrated oak) and a tarry scorched effect. Nicely balanced with good acidity, depth and tannins that coalesce into velvet (it still benefits from decanting). It's just hitting the sweet spot of maturity. Food friendly too. Good stuff. Dec. 2014.

WOW!
How different this Malbec is from its cousins in the new world.
But the most remarkable point here is that this gem of Bordeaux wine, from an extraordinary year, was priced just over $20.
Oh, if I had only bought more...

Elegant and complex, with a firm structure. Delicious. Nice balance, and food friendly.

This is nice to drink now, and I'm curious how it will taste with more age.

Excellent Cahors. Terrific nose of blackberry jam, some smoke, earthiness and mint.

The initial mouthfeel was lighter and more acidic than I'd expected but with air the wine opened up quite a bit with dark fruit flavours coming to the fore.

Medium-full body, very dark in the glass. Plenty of fruit here but this 90% Malbec is very different from new world styles. Great balance between sweet and savoury. Some tannin, good acidity, Excellent food wine.

Drinking well now but might improve over the short term.

Very fine Cahors here, that has mellowed very nicely and is drinking well now. While Malbec isn't used much in Bordeaux these days, the comparison with a fine red Bordeaux seems most appropriate. This is all about balance, structure and finesse, not in your face over ripe fruit. Fine wine at its peak now but should how several more years. Tasted April 2017.
