2nd note:mellow, mature Dec /22
Still very deeply coloured purple at nearly 11 years of age, this St Julien is in some ways still quite youthful. A bit tight upon first pour, but opens up nicely after some aeration. Rich, ripe dark fruits, with noted but well-integrated notes of vanilla from the French oak. Hints of cedar, bitter chocolate and even some tart red fruit on the finish. I suspect that the peak of this wine is still a few years away, though it is very enjoyable now. Drink now over hold for another 10-15 yrs with confidence. Very high quality left bank red.
