Really digging this beauty of a wine! Very fruit forward with loads of black fruit jam and a bit of cedar, tar, and smoke on the nose. On the palate, it's medium-full bodied with medium acid and slightly grippy tannins with a very long finish. It's a little boozy, but it's not overdone. Really nicely done!! Taste April 2014.
Tasted October 2020
Fruit dominates the nose initially, followeed by anise. The palate offers red berry fruit, more licorice, salt/teriyaki and savoury herbs (garrique). The stated 15% ABV is certainly present but not as dominant as I expected (the fruit isn't bullied), providing structure along with grippy tannins and some acidity. Very nice length here. It's coming together, but I suspect another 2-3 years will show marked improvemnent elevating the score to an excellent rating. March 2014.
This wine showed best after an hour in decanter on first day. It showed very ripe blackberry, raspberry, strawberry fruit in spades; with subtle pepper, dried herbs and cedar in the background. The palate is full, lush, spicy, and blackberry-abound -with adequate acid and firm, chewy tannin. Overall, it's quite good- the oak component is pleasantly moderate, and there's a wealth of flavor here for the money. My issue is the alcohol. To me it entirely soaks up the finish of this wine, and totally dominates on 2nd day. For my taste, it was hardly drinkable the next day; and it's too bad.
