A well made zesty lively riesling with just enough fruit sweetness to cover up the mouthwatering acidity. Expect...

This value-driven Riesling offers fresh mineral-driven aromas mixing with grapefruit and lime and a touch of anise. Lip smacking acidity on the palate with zippy flavours of key lime pie, wet stone and pink grapefruit. Crisp and focused with a lengthy finish, this offers a range of food flexibility: pair with anything from roast pork to smoked oysters or grilled white fish and summer fruit salsas.

This mediocre Riesling isn't terrible by any means, though it appears to be directed in the vicinity of the lowest common denominator, or at least to have been made with broad, unrefined commercial appeal in mind. It certainly goes for flavour rather than nuanced austerity, and the petrol, green apple, pear, and grapefruit notes are appealing if not harmonized. The problem is that the green apple tartness is just too tart, and it's this tartness that dominates the palette before the mix falls apart and a grainy dryness take over. Pretty good value for what it is, but that's about it.

This attractive bottle of Riesling with its flashy label fell short for me with a strong petrol aroma that distracted from its more appealing green apple and citrus fruit notes. This off-dry, high acid wine does not seem sweet and with only 10% alcohol feels a little light. Coming from the Niagara region, I loved that it showcases the unique clay and limestone soil of the vineyard and Riesling's potential to express it. This 2012 vintage was all mineral notes and no apologies.
