Opaque ruby to purple in colour with medium intense nose.

The blend of Merlot and Syrah makes this wine smooth and delicious.

Positives: This wine features plum, red peppers, peppercorn, cassis, raspberry, blackberry, cherry, chocolate, white pepper and vanilla. Medium+ body and tannins with good acidity and a long length.

Negatives: None

Interesting Point: The wine had double maturation of the grapes which is evident in the wine’s smoothness.

Drink now on its own or cellar it for another 2 years. Pair it with grilled lamb chops.

Tasted: 11 June 2013

Blended with 6% Merlot and 5% Syrah. Lovely red & black fruits, meaty, earthy and wood aromatics. Full-bodied with nice aroma replays. Mouth-watering acidity and a long, smooth finish. Shows great balance with nicely integrated tannins. Could be aged 2 years, but is definitely (very) enjoyable now! Amazing that this is part of the LCBO General List. My favourite of the tasting. Highly recommended. Tasted June/2013.

The 2011 Casa Lapostolle Grand Selection Carmenere, with added 6% Merlot and 5% Syrah, portion of which were aged in used French oak barrels for 5 months; has intense aromas of forest pine needles, blackberry, dates and light, toasted coffee. It is a medium to full bodied, exta-dry, fruity wine, with good acidity, with dusty tannins that are on the tannic side (decant for 30 min) and a medium, tongue coating finish. Food friendly wine to be complemented with salty, non-spicy, meaty dishes; drink now - 2018. My impression: NICE, 88-89 pts. Tasted privately with Charles de Bournet Marnier Lapostolle in June/13.

I haven’t had a lot of experience with this grape, but this was pretty good in my opinion. I liked the cherry vanilla, chocolate and coffee on the nose and the more savoury notes of white pepper as this opened up. The tannins seemed light to me and it’s got a nice warmth on the palate. Tasty!
