Deep, rich, and highly aromatic, this barolo represents a ripe vintage in a fashion that is balanced, not overdone, and classic. A complex choir of a field of violets, sweet cherries, ripe cranberry and caramelized orange peel seasoned with turpentine and cinnamon soars from the glass. Finely concentrated palate of cherry and orange tones, bright acidity, hefty but warm-hearted tannin and a savoury, mineral finish seals the deal; and it opens even more on day 2. Superbly balanced, and well worth the price.
An intimate wine we opened and discussed over the course of an evening. Refined and elegant with many layers to explore.
Excellent blend of traditional and modern styles with earthy complexity and vibrant fruit flavours.
Second bottle Oct 2018: Aging gracefully, but a bit shyer. Needed some time to open up (didn't decant, and should have). All dried flowers and gentle tannins at this stage; could hold a few years more I'm sure.
A nice wine to pair with a hearty homemade lasagna. Tasted September 2013.
