This is a surprisingly dark and dense example of St-Émilion, particularly at the price. It's deep ruby in colour,...

A modern-leaning, oak-inflected style, with resinous wood and smoky herbal flavours. The palate is mid-weight, and...

Sometimes a wine can be complex without being complicated, and this solid-value Bordeaux certainly delivers; it's rather oaky, with strong wood notes on the nose and the very dry finish, but in between it's soft, round, and luscious, full of creamy rich milk chocolate and ripe dark fruit like plum and blackberry, and the balance generally works even if the stuffing isn't terribly profound; a tad youthful for its own good at this point, and it's not clear that the overwrought fruit has anywhere to go as the tannins mellow, but it's still an enjoyable effort from an already-famous vintage.

I agree with the reviewer's description of the overall taste experience. My first impression was that this wine was very underrated; I thought it was a great example of a Bordeaux. But over time the taste of the wood or tannins (I am not sure which) came to dominate, so my opinion of this wine decreased. I suggest pairing it with chocolate, which worked surprisingly well to improve the drinking experience.

Deep ruby in colour. The nose reveals strong wood influences and refreshing ripe fruit. Sweet at first but the harsh green and bitter tannins take over spoiling the long finish. With 15% alcohol, dark colour and ripe fruit I was expecting considerably milder tannins. Not sure if this just needs more time or the culprit is bad wine making practices, but either way I'd pass on this particular wine.
