A earthy, herbaceous wine with good complexity and body. A real taste of Southern France at a fair price - good value for money.
Dried dark plum, cassis, liquorice, lavender and sweet herbs, smoke, peppers, medium body, and a smooth velvety finish with moderate length.
Tasted April 2013.
Once again, Chateau de Treviac has produced a wine tasting much more pricey than its $16 price tag. Generously fruited and approachable, with lovely supporting notes of herbs, black pepper and spice. Despite 15% alcohol, I don't find this hot at all. Good length. Super value. Tasted May 2013.
Used it to cook, and I'm happy to report my coq au vin turned out quite alright.
Sipping what I didn't pour into the pot, I can assure you, was a very enjoyable experience. Unremarkable, but very enjoyable.
While trying to find a word to describe the unique bouquet, I am afraid the term "cat piss" came to mind. That is a bit unfair, but it was my first impression. As for taste, my interpretation of "earth" and "woodsiness" is a slightly off sour taste. It does improve a bit by the end of the glass, but this wine just did not work for me.
