Once you go Xinomavro, especially with this stupidly good value, you never go back. An inoculate of bright cherry...

Poor mans Barolo. There is lots of garnet on the rim showing its seven years of age. The nose is intense and complex...

A really intriguing wine despite the obvious maturity notable on both the nose and palate. There is so much...

Delicate, and even better than the 2004. Texture is nebbiolo-esque, but with softer tannins and crispy acidity. Quite...

Coming to us from Greece, this red offers so much for the sub $20 range. Herbal, spice, dried berries, and tomato tickle the nose. Light and dry on its feet, it unfolds nicely on the palate with earthy tones and licorice. This Xinomavro-based wine has a very good length that ties everything together, leaving an excellent lasting impression. Great value. Tasted February 2013.

Garnet-brickish colour in the glass, which suggests its age, this is an interesting, traditional Old World style of wine. The nose is dominated by dried red/tart cherry fruit, oak spice, and earthy and herbaceous notes. It's medium-light bodied with quite high acid and tannins that are somewhat high as well (reminiscent of nebbiolo). The finish is long with the sour cherry and herbaceousness notes most dominant. Amazing value for fans of this style. Tasted February 2013.

The comparison to Nebbiolo is certainly applicable here. Even its brick colour is similar to Nebbiolo. Despite 6+ years of age, the tannin is still firm (just like, you know...), with tart acidity and bright, earthy sour cherry flavours. Remarkably complex and long finishing for such a modestly priced wine. Just a superb red in the best old world tradition. Tasted Feb 2014.

I had the opportunity to taste the 2008 ahead of the 2007 and they are similar, perhaps fruit fading slightly more on the 07 and a bit more garnet in colour. Some funk, red berry, cherry, leather, tomato, anise, spice. Medium bodied, with still sticky tannins and medium plus acidity, there's very good length. A touch thin, but holding up well. July 2015.

Sour cherry/raspberry nose with loads of supporting woodsyness, liquorice and mild tobacco. The palate is very firm and dry with tart cherry & herbal earthiness. Lots of flavour here wound in an old world kind of austerity that is very refreshing and pure.

This was very nice, similar in style/taste to a lighter Barolo or Barbaresco. Recommended.89/90

100% agree with JS.

Xinomavro is still new to me, but I am truely enjoying it. A great alternative to Italian and is always an interesting wine to bring to a friend's for dinner or as a gift.

Very nicely paired with tomato based dishes.

Tasted February 2013.
