The 2010 Chapel Hill Shiraz has intense aromas of blackberry, dates, prune and vanilla. It is an extra-dry, full bodied, fruity wine; with good structure of balanced acidity, refined tannins and a long and silky finish. Though food friendly, sip this one alone; drink now – 2018 (screw cap). My impression: BEAUTIFUL, 91-92 pts – recommended due to its quality. Tasted at Churchill Cellars Portfolio tasting May/13.

Dark ruby in colour with a medium+ intense nose.

Quality wine that is well balanced at a reasonable price, and a best buy if you can get it at the clearance price.

Positives: This wine features well-integrated oak, plums, red & black pepper, blackberry, cinnamon, vanilla, fruitcake, espresso & licorice. Full body with medium+ tannins, good acidity and a long length.

Negatives: Holy hot Batman! The 14.5% alcohol feels hotter than that.

Drink now or over the next 7 years on its own or pair it with peppercorn steak.

Dark ruby and opaque in the glass, this Aussie shiraz is not overly confected and displays typical characteristics - pepper and spice, with dark and red fruit. There's good length here and some complexity, with tannins that ease a bit with decanting (45 minutes). I found it a bit off balance with alcohol heat at the end a touch pronounced. Approachable now (she won't turn you down if you ask her to dance, but don't expect the most nimble dancer on the floor). A tad overpriced at $27, but mt local LCBO had it discounted by $5, making it fit into my bottom dweller budget. Grip it n' sip it!
