This wine is a blend of 100% Chenin Blanc, from low yielding old bush vines (41-47 years old), after barrel fermentation the wine was matured in French oak for eight months (combination of 1st to 3rd fill) and alcohol comes in at 13.5%.
This wine is a bright yellow gold and opened up with aromas of pineapple, peach, caramel, honey and hints of spices. On the mouthfeel, medium-full bodied with a creamy and slightly sweet and ripe flavours of tropical fruit with a honeyed textured and crisp acidity. This Chenin Blanc finish is long with a mouth coating sweetness and a citrus refreshing ending, very enjoyable.
Medium gold in the glass, this wine's colour immediately suggests heavy oak influence. It's definitely there with vanilla and caramel aromas to go along with the ripe peach, apricot, and pineapple aromas. On the palate, it's full-bodied with very ripe tropical fruit flavours and a round, luscious texture. It has nice acidity to keep it somewhat fresh, but it's just a little overdone for my tastes. Maybe in a couple years once everything starts to mellow it might show better, but it's hard to get past the oak influence right now. Tasted May 2013.
