This is a well-priced sparkling Riesling from Germany made in the traditional method, though there is little autolytic character (the biscuit or brioche flavour imparted by aging on the lees) to be noted. The aroma is like that of many young Rieslings: citrus, green apple, and mineral. There is an additional honeyed note on the palate, alongside notable sweetness provided by the dosage. However, the wine finishes dry, buoyed by saliva-inducing acidity. The mousse is not altogether elegant, and the finish moderate-to-short, but this is a good introduction to the genre.
Can't go wrong for $11 sparkling German Riesling from a large established house. The bubbles are not very fine but the mousse is soft. Easily blind tasted as a German Riesling with the telltale nose of honeyed apricot, rubber, slight petrol and pear. Drinks like a well made but entry level Pfalz showing slight waxy sweetness that softens the acids. Very high crushability factor. Bring on the Thai, Indian or serve to the guy who just finished a habanero eating contest. Tasted Aug '13.
