Quails' Gate 2011 chardonnay is a nice step up from the 2010 in my view, with a fine blend of ripe citrus and orchard...

This is a nicely poised chardonnay with a youthful apple, leesy nose and florality with spicy, lightly toasty oak....

Pale gold in color, this wine opened up with aromas of ripe pears, golden apple, citrus fruit, buttery, toasty oak and vanilla notes. On the mouthfeel, medium bodied, slightly creamy, fresh acidity with a nice blend of citrus and tree fruit flavours. Very good depth of flavour on the finish, light minerality, toasted hazelnut with lingering flavours of tropical fruit with a touch of honey. Well made stylish cool climate Chardonnay where the use of oak is carefully restrained and well integrated. Strongly recommended.

Nice aromas of apple, pear and butter waft from the glass. Medium-full bodied with nice aroma replays, plus some minerality and French oak on the palate. Some herbal/leesy notes come through on the mid-palate. Very good acidity and the finish is medium-long. Tasted Jan/2013.

Aged 50% in stainless steel and 50% in barrel – 20% new – this is a round, ripe, pleasant drinking chardonnay with aromas of light spice, mineral and a slightly leesy/funky note. Mid weight and focused on the palate with orchard fruit, spice and melon flavours. Quite pleasant with restrained use of oak that would make this enjoyable all year round with anything from crab and avocado salad to herb-roasted chicken.
