Dark, almost opaque ruby in colour with a medium+ intense nose.

Positives: Lots of flavour on both the nose & taste showing cedar, cassis, plums, cloves, blueberries, blackberries, tobacco leaves, sage, leather, pencil shavings & turmeric. Full body, medium+ tannins, good acidity & long length.

Negatives: A touch hot from the high alcohol.

Interesting Points: See my review of the 2009 Knights Valley on 23 May 12 and compare the two.

Drink now or cellar it for another 7 years, and pair it with grilled tenderloin steak.

Score: 9/10, Value: 9+/10, Total: 18+/20

Out of 5 stars, I rated this wine: 4+

This has matured well over a couple of years. Tasted in a 2008-10 vertical where is won out due to excellent integration and overall expression of character.

I thought the 2009 showed better, the 2010 is (to me) a bit astringent...the quality of the fruit just isn't the same as 2009. Despite my negativity this is still (for the $$) a well put together Cali Cab. However for almost $15 less, The Raymond steals the show for the 2010 vintage. ...Just my two cents.

Beringer's Knights Valley is a classic wine from this AVA and their 2010, while just a point shy from being excellent, does deliver a firm glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. A juicy nose of fig, potter's soil, and cured ham is attractive and shows nice density. The palate is supple with moderate intensity, showcasing some nice oak use with flavors of toasted rye, pecan and hazelnut. The tannins are well integrated throughout much of the palate; however, they turn bitter towards the finish and dry things up, taking away from what would otherwise be a fine chocolate toned finish. A wine that is drinking well now and will sit in the cellar nicely for the next 5 to 8 years.
