Not the most complex wine, but it is a delicious blend of 47% Zinfandel, 29% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petite Syrah. The colour is a clear, intense purple. It has an aroma of dark raspberries and mocha. On the palette, I get a deep raspberry and blackberry notes, cocoa, a touch of vanilla and a soft earthiness. This is a medium to full-body wine, with moderate tannins.
A Zinfandel/Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon/Petite Sirah blend, the Red Velvet is predictably plush, with plum, blueberry, raspberry and raisin notes as well as a mint/tea/smoke component. It's medium-plus bodied and juicy, with lip-smacking plum, cherry and raspberry front and centre. Things almost get confected, but the soft tannin and a light rubbery note helps this wine from going fleshy and sweet.
