Altesino's '01 Brunello is surprisingly youthful on first taste. The colour does not betray its 11 years and tannin is still quite noticeable on the finish. Yet the wine exhibits ripe fruits and floral aromas. Leaning toward a slightly more modern take on brunello, flavours are quite ripe, yet still exhibit the endearing flavours of sour cherries, dried fruit and earth that make it unmistakeably Tuscan. Very long finishing. A really excellent wine, to drink now with a bit of a decant or can easily hold 5+years. Tasted Sept 2012.
