The 2009 Polkura Syrah is a medium to full bodied, fruity wine, with intense aromas of smoke, blackberry, black cherry, strawberry, pepper and green pepper. It is on the acidic side, has refined tannins (decant for 30+ min) and has a long and smooth finish. Cellar it for several years as it has an evolution potential of at least 2 pts, drink 2015-2025. My impression: BEAUTIFUL, 91 pts - recommended buy. Tasted Jan/13.

Svelte aromas of ripe blue/black fruit, violet, subtle smokey tar, and a hint of pepper. The palate is much the same flavour profile, smooth and beautifully balanced with silky tannins and a long warm finish. Nice wine.
This is a very intense and substantial syrah. It sits inky purple opaque in the glass. Floral aromas and ripe dark fruit with tarry and herbaceous savoury notes. Typical pepper and spice. A chewy, sticky and full mouthfeel. Tannins flex their muscles so decant for an hour, or even better, put down for a nap in the cellar for a year or two (which will add a point or so to the rating). Good balance and decent length. Made for smokey bbq meats, so if tenderloin medallions are sizzling, grip it n' sip it!. August 2103.
Dense, dark, and beautiful. Bacon-wrapped fillet mignon.
Tremendous value under $20. Buy a case.
Syrahs tend to be full-bodied, full of ripe peppery berry flavour and this powerful Syrah is no exception, while still being exceptional.
From pour to finish this wine speaks volumes and value at under $20 a bottle. The color is deep burgundy that is essentially opaque.
The nose sensually promises blackberry after later summer's rain. The essence of vanilla and oakwood on the tongue shines through the layers of silky tannins and floral influences. The finish leaves you wanting another taste but keeps you appreciating the ride.
Oh this feels good when you drink it. It's like sitting on Grandpa's lap in front of the fire. It's warm, smokey, and has a comforting mentholy like Bengay scent. Grab a few of these and share with family and Grandma's overcooked roast beef.
Tasted March 2013.
Nice fruit and smoke on the nose with a nice complex follow up on the palate and a lingering and complex finish.
I was a little disappointed with this wine. It held lots of promise on the nose, but it failed to deliver for me on the palate. Tasted October 2012.
