Coyote's Run 2010 Cab/ Franc from the Black Paw Vineyard

2010 was an outstanding year in Niagara especially for red varietals like cabernet Franc/ Sauvignon/ Merlot/ Syrah and all others really. But this hot vintage really allowed hot climate big boys to thrive in their cool roots. These reds are big but still embody a refined classiness and finesse, thanks to the moderating acidity that our climate allows for. This Cab/ Franc is more reserved than some others I've tasked from this vintage in the Niagara-on-the-lake appellation. However it still possesses adequate grip and fusion as a whole. I did notice when i poured it that it looked a bit light or thin. however after taking a sip it was evident that there was plenty of grippy tannins to satisfy me. The wine is really tight right now, I let it sit for a full 24 hour before drinking it again and it was much more elegant. It possesses incredible structure and balance. Fresh nose of sweet/ sour plums, cherry tobacco, vanilla oak and a tad of cassis. the flavours need more time to develop, but now i'm getting sour cherries and plums with smoky oak. It's medium bodied and refreshing with a nice tight finish, that will surly become more suave with a couple more years of bottle aging. 87-89 PTS

Buy Three bottles - one for now, one for five years from now and one for the decade long hull.
