Succulent, cedary, deliciousness.
A definite re-buy at the price
Standing at the checkout in the wine shop, the two people ahead of me in line were also buying this wine – we must be on to something here…
From the Sangiovese grape, the nose is full of dark plum skin and more earth-driven aromas such as leather and cedar. Vibrantly refreshing to taste, even mouth watering; cranberry tartness and certainly delicious not to mention highly food friendly, though I could easily sip this one on its own all day! Tasted Sept 2012.
Very approachable red from Montepulciano, brimming with Tuscan character. Vivid red cherry fruit, leather, some tart dried fruit and earthy notes. No noticeable wood influence, just pure Sangiovese fruit (or Prugnolo Gentile as it is called in the region). Lovely drinking now, will hold a few years. Superb value. Tasted Sep 2012.
This lovely wine is so Italian, just smelling this wine and I think I could be in a little pizzeria in Tuscany. It opens up with aromas of red plum, sour cherry, sundried tomatoes, soft leather and cedar notes. On the mouthfeel, medium bodied (with alcohol coming in at 13.5%), ripe fruit and herbal and spicy flavours, lively acidity and dusty tannins. The finish is long with bright spicy flavours and loads of energy. This is a very charming and traditional wine with a real sense of place. Strongly recommended and a fantastic value at this price.
This dry red went well with eggplant Parm with some pasta in a light red sauce. Decant for 1 hour.
The 2009 Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano is 90% Prugnolo Gentile and 10% Canaiolo Nero. It is enjoyable wine with aromas of dark plum, sour cherry, and earth, with hints of smokiness. Smooth texture, tannins are quite present (would definitely benefit from a few years in the cellar).
Medium body with intriguing structure. Warm and long aftertaste.
A versatile choice for veal or pork chops with Portobello mushrooms on side.
It is a very good value that will deliver joy over the next few years.
Tasted September 2012.
