Smells divine perhaps because I have nosed so much merde already today. Big, chewy and oak mounted, this Strathbogie...

This lovely Shiraz had a great deep purple colour. It was spicy with lots of berry and licorice with slight vegetative flavours. It had great structure with nothing really jumping out to overpower. It also had an enjoyable long finish. I'm not one to normally drink Australian Shiraz but I would drink this one. I actually enjoy many of the wines from Plunkett Fowles. Not only is the quality there but it comes at an affordable price.

This Shiraz is dark purple in colour and opens up with aromas of dark plums, blackberry/blueberry jam, burnt sugar, eucalyptus and savoury notes. On the palate, full bodied (with alcohol coming in at 15%), rich and creamy mouthfeel, fresh acidity and fine grained tannins. This wine finish is long, slightly sweet with flavours of stewed fruit, eucalyptus, pepper and savoury notes lingering. This wine is better served slightly chilled, around 16-17 C, its gives the wine a more creamy mouthfeel, tames the alcohol and improves fruitiness. Definitely lots of toasty oak on this shiraz, but not over done, overall very good. I know that this wine will appeal to many of of my friends. Recommended to people who enjoy this style, and at this price a good value.

This is a more refined version of your typical Australian Shiraz. As expected lots of flavour, and that slightly harsh finish. Although pleasant to drink, it is not smooth or interesting enough to rate a 90. At twenty dollars is is a reasonable value.

In one whiff and a quick sip, and this wine sums up a multitude of adjectives used to describe Aussie Shiraz: full, jammy, extracted, generous, concentrated… With aromas of stewed black fruit and smoked meat right off the bat, I expected something rather overblown and excessive, but in all respects, this is really quite pleasant. The palate starts off rather full but then relaxes slightly to show a good balance of the whopping 15% alcohol and acidity before the characteristicShiraz pepper spice kicks in. Some juicy blackberry and dried cranberry flavours complete the package nicely. Sip this one solo or pair with ribs on the barbi… as they say ‘down under’. Tasted Feb 2012.

Screw cap. Medium-to-high intensity nose featuring stewed fruits, blackberry, dried herbs, black pepper spice and earthy tones. It's full-bodied with sweet, integrated tannins and very nice aroma replays joined by hints of violet and eucalyptus notes. Rush of fresh, juicy acidity mid-palate. Finishes long and earthy. This lovely Aussie Shiraz should continue to drink well over the next 2-3 years. Tasted Jan/2016.
