This mature, ultra-smooth and quite rich Rioja captures impressive power and depth at the price, but I would not wait...

The 2004 Ramon Bilbao Gran Reserva is a medium bodied, integrated wine, with intense aromas of cherry, chocolate, leather, oak, coconut and vanilla. It has a nice structure with good acidity, tannins that are refined to tannic (decant for 30 or more min) and a long finish. It is ready to drink now and will be for the next 5 or more years. My impression: BEAUTIFUL, 91 pts and a recommended buy. Tasted Dec/11.

This wine has a complex sensuous bouquet of wild berries, stewed fruit, Asian spices, cedar and leather. On the palate this wine is medium to full bodied (with alcohol at 13.5%) with elegant smooth texture, fresh acidity and silky tannins. This Gran Reserva finish is very smooth, spicy and savoury. This wine is a blend of 90% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano and 5% Grenache, aged 30 months in American oak casks. Once bottled it is further aged 36 months at the vineyards underground facility before release. This is a very aromatic and elegant, mature and sophisticated wine, ready to enjoy on it's own.Strongly recommended

Dark ruby in colour with a medium+ intense nose.

If you want a really good Tempranillo Gran Reserva for under $30 this one is it

Positives: This smooth yet complex wine features cedar, sandalwood, dark cherry, plums, vanilla, coconut, Rosemary, mint, cinnamon & nutmeg. Medium body with medium low tannins, good acidity and a long length.

Negatives: None.

Drink now on its own or cellar it for another 4 years and pair it with grilled rack of lamb.

I knew I'd love this the moment I nosed it. Wow. Excellent wine with lots to enjoy. It has ceder, spice and everything nice. Great body with soft black fruits. The tannins were very nicely integrated. If you need to pick up a holiday gift for a wine lover, I'm sure they would love this. I would too (hint hint). :)

This was good but it didn't blow me away. Tight nose initially, opened up with some perfume and spice. Medium-full body. Plenty of flavours: sour cherry, olives and mint. Overall I felt this was a little bit too woody and slightly astringent for my taste, though it has quite good flavour concentration. Good wine, worth trying, but i expected more for the price.
