The 2006 Umberto Fiore Barbaresco that really is for $17 (unbelievable), is light bodied wine with nice aromas of integrated violets, cedar, liquorice on the nose and raspberry, red currant, coconut and vanilla on the palate. It is bit off balance with slightly higher acidity, with tannins that are refined to tannic (decant for 15 to 30 min) and finish that is long and smooth, but slightly alcoholic. Drink now or cellar for 5 or so years, I wouldn't expect it to get much better. My impression: NICE, 88.5 pts and a recommended buy. A side note, it is crafted to be quite food friendly - especially beef, and I agree with Steve Thurlow's review, but not with the score. Tasted Oct/11.

Semi opaque in the glass, garnet color.

On the nose more floral aromas, licorice, red berries.

On the palate dry, medium bodied, I’d say still young. First acidity jumps to your palate, good balance of oak and tannins. Little high in alcohol. Overall little unbalanced, but very food friendly.

My bottle says 2008, but this is the closest listing I could find. It is really good, a real Barbaresco for only sixteen bucks. I would like to do a blind test against the $40 versions, as to me this is just as good. An amazing buy.

a bit too light - I smell faint strawberries, cherries and smoke. The taste is again faint - walnuts, cherries and smoke? Very light bodied however very well made, perhaps the 2006 vintage was weak? easy finish. A 3 star wine at $17, it's a pass for me - enjoyable but don't waste your money on this. You're welcome.
