Classic, open, fragrant nebbiolo here, with characteristic firmness on the palate, and a wonderful range of flavours...

This is a pale, maturing, rustic nebbiolo with a very herbal, leathery, slightly farmy/cheesy nose. Some roasted...

I was in Barolo recently, but this Barbaresco (also based on the nebbiolo grape) is as good as Barolos I paid considerably more for. Get a few before they are gone . I did.

The 2007 Pelissero Barbaresco is light to medium bodied, integrated wine. It is nicely aromatic, especially upon opening, when it is intensely aromatic. The nose is dominated by cedar and subtle coffee, mint and liquorice; whereas red fruit (currant/cherry) is noted on the palate. It is tannic (decant for 30 to 60 min) and the finish is nicely long and smooth. Surprisingly it is ready to drink now or can be cellared for more than 10 years. My impression: BEAUTIFUL, 91 pts - recommended buy, especially at this price. Tasted June/11.

The pale colour is a bit shocking after having so many deeply coloured reds during the winter. Yet, don't let that fool you. This entry level barbaresco is loaded with flavour. Very floral on the nose. The palate shows complex flaovurs of slightly sour red cherries, with notes of herbs, and dried cherries. On the finish, there is brisk acidity and some firm tannin, about what you'd expect from nebbiolo. Certainly leans toward a traditional approach to barbaresco, and I am grateful for that. Lovely value. Drinking now or even better with a 2-3 years in the cellar. Tasted Apr 2014.
