This has an intriguing and complex nose that may not appeal to all, but the cassis, menthol, wood smoke/ash, pepper...

This syrah has a complex wild nose of cassis, menthol and iodine like dry kelp, plus black pepper and dark chocolate...

Agreed. Top shelf for $13. Steak or anything grilled. 2008 vintage.
Update:
2010 was not quite as good.
The good news: 2011 is very good again. Great with ribs in BBQ sauce as well.

Outstanding value, perfect with roast lamb. For my taste would prefer some oak but feel guilty criticizing at this price point.

Tasted the 2011.

It is a little bit one-note (the note being black currant or blackberry), and is somewhat syrupy. That said, it's tasty and definitely represents a good value.

It tastes like a subdued version of an Australian shiraz. Not very smooth, but maybe I do not like iodine. Not much finish, though that may be a good thing here. Reasonable value, but no way is it a 90.

Intense mintiness, coffee, black pepper, toffee, and a meatiness on the nose. Plenty of fruit of the palate with some strong tannins still prevalent. May improve over the next 2 years.

The 2010 Cono Sur Syrah Reserva is a medium to full bodied, fruity wine, with appealing strawberry notes. It has refined, dusty tannins (decant for 15 min) and a medium finish. It will get better in the next couple of years or so and should be able to cellar for 5-10 years. My impression: NICE, 87.5 pts - good value from the general section and hence a recommended buy. Tasted Feb/12.

This is an appealing syrah that is more fruit forward that most traditional old world styles. A very easy drinking wine with soft tannins after a bit of decanting. Drink now or cellar for up to 5 years.

This is quite tasty but the finish is a bit short. Not offensive in any way but other Chilean Syrahs that I've tasted at a similar or a bit higher price point have had more depth of flavour. That said, it's certainly not a purchase I regret.
87 - tasted November 2011

nose provides berries vanilla musty oak. Medium bodied - tastes a tad watered down. simple and tasty. nothing more than the price tag suggests.
