The medium+ intensity nose offers citrusy, lemon peel and herbal notes, with touches of white peach and stony mineral. On the dry, medium to medium-full bodied palate it has a very nice textural mouthfeel along with intriguing smoky, leesy mineral flavours that are complex and nuanced with citrus, pear, stone fruit, and orchard fruit. Acids are crisp and well-balanced. The finish length is excellent, balanced, and dry with savoury leesy notes. Unique and wonderful! Tasted Apr. 2026.

I prefer my pinot gris on the lush side, and tropical fruit notes are always welcome. I was not thrilled with the last one I tried from Awatere, from the Eradus winery - I found it to be on the tight and austere side for an NZ gris. This one is much more to my liking - it is more open and fruity, though not tropical, with just enough residual sugar to balance the bracing acidity, making it refreshing and very food-friendly. Tasted April 2026.
