Tasted May 2011.
A pleasant but not memorable malbec. The floral/herbal and licorice notes are all there but you have to hunt for them a bit behind the heavy alcohol and smoked meatiness. I'd say it's a reasonable value at this price - at this price I've certainly tasted worse but I've also tasted much better.
This producer is fairly consistent. Good black fruit: plum up front with some sour cherry and smoke on the finish. Fairly full with moderate tannin structure that will add complexity with some age. A bit edgy right now but then Sophenia's malbec always smooths with a couple of years in the cellar. Best after 2013. (northof9finewine, Feb 2011)
