This wine has been a favourite of mine for years and it is always a good buy for a mature soft red for roast meats....

The 2007 Campo Viejo Crianza is medium bodied, with nice aromas of integrated cherry, leather, cedar and coconut. Tannins are refined (really needs to be decanted for 1 to 2 hours for it to fully open) and the finish is smooth and medium to long. It has the potential to age for another 5 years. My impression: NICE, 90 pts - recommended buy especially at this price tag (on sale now till March 27th 2011. Tasted Mar/10.

Lusciously ruby in the glass, a complex aroma of mixed red berries and rich spices, through the 13.5% alc/vol; fills the nose. An underlying layer of toasty vanilla adds to a woody complexity. Astonishingly light on the palate, sharp flavors of black pepper quickly soften to smooth velvety tannins and a long herbal finish with notes of pampas leather and toasted coconut.
Smooth and easy-drinking, full and subtle with a sense of adventure at decent price tag.
Not bad.
Not bad at all.
