This bargain-priced Amarone is a deep black cherry colour and has a complex nose comprised of pepper, tar, animal, raisin, violets and menthol. The palate follows beautifully with spicy-herbal-menthol notes. The tannins are mature and silky and there is still plenty of acid resulting in excellent balance. Flavours persist through the long finish.
Excellent wine. A good example of Amarone and definitely among the best in the vintage. Very nice. Tasted April 2011 and September 2012.
Smooth, thick and dark purple. Earth tones and chocolate, slightly sweet taste. Did not require decanting as tannins are fine. Overall excellent.
One bottle was corked. Other bottle was nice. For $32, this is a great introduction to Amarone. You can pop and pour this wine and it will drink wonderfully. It's not over the top in terms of "raisin" and "dried fruit" flavours and aroma, and has a nice bit of acidity and freshness. Some wines are obviously Amarone...this one, not so much. A very enjoyable wine.
