Mainly Sangiovese with Canaiolo, Malvasia Nera, and Trebbiano completing the blend, the fragrant nose has funky barnyard and earthy notes off the top, layered over red flowers, red cherry, blackberry, and forest floor aromas. On the medium+ bodied palate it is rustic and savoury with wet earth, red & black fruited, and clove flavours supported by fresh, well-balanced acidity and fine-grained, lightly grippy tannins. Juicy with earthy, savoury, clove, and cocoa notes linger on the long, persistent finish. Really quite nice in a rustic, savoury profile. Tasted Jan/2022.
A little brett on the nose, but nothing off-putting in my bottle, This Sangiovese certainly leans toward the more rustic side of the grape's expression, but there is no doubting its origin, Sour cherry, a bit of cured meat, some dried fruit and brisk tannin and acidity on the finish. I'd opt to drink this sooner than later, but interesting wine if not to everyone's taste. Tasted May 2022.
