Quinta do Vale Dona Maria is owned by Cristiano van Zeller. This is a deeply coloured Duoro, a blend of Toriga Franca and Toriga Nacional. The fruit is dense, concentrated and very ripe, perhaps a bit too ripe. Alcohol comes in at 15%, which is higher than one usually sees in the Duoro. A fair bit of heat and oak flavours show up on the finish. Clearly, some fine fruit is being grown here. Picked a bit earlier and with less oak, this would undoubtedly be stellar. Alas, the wine seems a bit overdone, at least to my taste. If you like wines of this style, this is a great value. Sept '20.
