Another winner in the Cavinona portfolio from a small quality conscious producer. Deep ruby in colour but with a little brick on the meniscus showing some evolution. Classic sangiovese aromas and flavours redolent of cherries, violets, and spice with an iron ore streak on the palate. Full bodied and chewy. Substantial but polished tannins are present with an earthiness to it but certainly not rustic. Some hard candy and a touch of bitterness on the long finish. A very versatile wine with Mediterranean cuisine. Maybe it does not have the finesse of a great Chianti or Brunello but jeez this is good. And by the way, it’s time to recognize the female winemakers emerging in Italy.
