This is what I call "a find"! Less than $25 for a very delectable Right Bank Bordeaux, with all the charm (lovely dark fruit, smooth tannins, notable length) that you would encounter in way (and I mean WAY) more expensive options from neighbouring areas.
Top value Claret!
This 60/40 blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc has a medium+ intensity nose that is fresh with red berry, cherry, and spice aromas, while the spicy medium-full bodied palate has raspberry, blackberry, tobacco, and forest floor flavours. It has vibrant acidity and supple tannins, becoming savoury on the mid-palate. Long finishing. Enjoy over the next 4-5 years. Tasted Mar/2019.
Merlot-based right banker here from an appellation worth seeking out, especially if St Emilions and Pomerols have bee priced out of reach as it has for most of us. I like the firm structure here and the understated complex fruit. Fairly complex and long finishing with a fair bit of oak showing. A little less oak would have pushed the score over 90. Drink or hold a few years. Tasted April 2021.
